Nestled in both DuPage and Will counties, Naperville is an affluent suburban city with approximately 75,000 residents. In 2006, it was voted the second-best place to live by Money magazine. Joseph Naper along with his family and friends established Naper’s Settlement in 1831. In 1832, many of the early settlers were displaced due to the anticipated Sauk tribe attack. Luckily, the attack never took place, and everyone was able to return to their homes. With the construction of the Pre-Emption House, the area became a stagecoach stop from Galena to Chicago. This house still stands at the Naper Settlement Museum. The city remained a rural community until the 1960s brought a population explosion.
